Act 37 of the 2011 Arkansas General Assembly prohibits drivers from using handheld wireless telephones while operating motor vehicles when passing a school building or school zone during school hours when children are present and outside the building, except in cases of emergency.

Parent Center Session: Making the Most of Parent-Teacher Conferences
Did you know that parents can prepare for parent-teacher conferences? Mallorey Thompson, a teacher at Allen, will share some practical tips that will help you make the best use of time during your conference with your child's teacher.

Parent Center Session: Smart Choices for Smart Kids using Smart Devices
How do we keep our children safe in a high-tech world? What are the experts saying about ground rules for technology use in our homes? What apps are safe for 1st & 2nd graders? Brad Edwards, a 1st grade parent, will answer questions and share helpful information for protecting our kids.

Don't miss out on our next Parent Center Session The 3 C’s of Discipline. Choices, Consistency and Character are helpful to keep in mind when our children need our best parenting. Dr. Margo Turner, JBU professor and parent of twins in the Siloam Springs School District, will share practical tips on how discipline can be a win-win in your home.

We're Having a Food Drive!
From now until Thanksgiving, the first and second graders of Allen Elementary are collecting non-perishable items to help out families in our community. All non-perishable foods may be sent with your student to school. First and second grade students will be competing to see which grade collects the most food! 

It's Red Ribbon Week at Allen!
October 27-30 is Red Ribbon Week. This is a time when we recognize the importance of saying no to drugs! Help us celebrate this fun week by participating in the following "dress up" days:

Monday-Put a Lid on Drugs- Wear a Hat
Tuesday- Love Yourself, Be Drug Free!- RED OUT (Wear LOTS of red!!)
Wednesday- Drugs Can't Find Me- Wear Camouflage
Thursday- Team Up Again Drugs- Wear your favorite team shirt

Our Red Ribbon Week assembly will be Thursday, October 30 at 9:30 in the cafeteria. 

Remember, this is NO SCHOOL on Friday, October 31 for students!

Parents Make a Difference Night!
Please join us for Parents Make a Difference Day and/or Parents Make a Difference Night on Tuesday, October 14, 2014.  Parents will have the opportunity to select and attend sessions on special topics of their choice.  Parents can choose to attend sessions in English or Spanish.  The evening sessions will conclude after our PTO meeting which begins at 6:30 pm in the school library. See the attachments below to view the various sessions that will be offered! We can't wait to see you on this special night!

Sharing & Caring of Benton County
Before we know it, the holiday season will be upon us! Often times, economic hardships prevent many parents from providing basic needs and Christmas gifts for their children. Sharing & Caring of Benton County is a local organization that provides assistance to families that may need additional help during the holiday season. To be apart of Sharing & Caring of Benton County, please visit the link below to download and fill out an application. Applications will be accepted on Saturday, October 11th, from 10:00am-1:00pm at the Siloam Springs Boys & Girls Club (655 Heritage Court).

Congratulations to our Allen Teacher of the Year!
Congratulations to Jill Hartman who was awarded her Teacher of the Year plaque during September's school board meeting. Mrs. Hartman currently teaches second grade and serves on many committees at Allen to help our school run smoothly. We are so proud of you, Mrs. Hartman!

-Parents & students meet in the cafeteria and enjoy snacks. 
-Students will enjoy time with school staff while parents learn about our school and resources available in our school and community.
-Students and parents will be reunited for a tour of our school.

We Love Our Volunteers!
Please join us this Tuesday, May 13 from 11:30-12:00 for a Volunteer Reception. This is our chance to let you know how much we truly appreciate all of the wonderful work you have put into our school this year! The reception will be held in the Allen Elementary library, followed by our May PTO meeting at 12:00. Snacks will be provided.We hope to see you there!

Attention All Parents of Incoming First Graders!!
We are excited about working with you and your child next year at Allen Elementary. You are invited to join us for a Parent Information Meeting on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, in the Allen Elementary library. We will offer two sessions for parents that evening.  The first session will be held at 5:00 pm and will be conducted in English. The second session will be held at 6:00 pm and will be conducted in English and translated into Spanish.

Suzann Hernandez, parent trainer from ChildCare Aware, will share two simple tips for effective discipline. She will teach parents how to stop unwanted behaviors in their child and how to start desired behaviors.
